Angela Fristoe: Interview

1. What do you do when you are not writing?

I love spending time with my husband and daughter. We do a lot of road trips, and my husband is always trying to get me out of the house to explore nature. I also work full-time as a 3rd grade teacher.

2. Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

Choosing just one author is so difficult. Right now I am completely in love with Veronica Roth (Divergent) and Carrie Ryan (The Forest of Hands and Teeth). Both authors have amazing voices and have built these worlds that pull you right in. Of course, if I had to pick one, I’d go with Carrie Ryan, because zombies rock!

3. I find it interesting to know what environment people write in. Do they use a pen and paper, laptop? Quiet room, music or what? Dog at their feet? Cat on the desk?

Ideally, I would work at my desktop computer in a quiet room cut off from the internet. But, I don’t have that luxury, so I typically write in the office I share with my husband, while my daughter sings me songs, or makes me pretend I’m the evil step-mother witch, as I am also surfing the Internet.

 4. Which character speaks the loudest, to you? Do any of them clamor to be heard over the others?

Dani was the one character that really kept me writing Songbird, and not just because she was narrating. She has had such a hard life, yet she’s unwilling to just give up.

5.What sort of Starbuck’s coffee would your characters order?

Dani is definitely a venti hot chocolate girl.

Come back tomorrow when Angela shares her favorite parts of Songbird.
