Favorite 10 Reads of 2023

I read a hundred books this year, which is not unusual for me. Most of them I liked, and I want to share my ten favorite ones with you. I’ve presented them here with the most recently read first and the ones I read at the beginning of the year last. I hope you find one or two you recognize, and one or two you must read yourself!

  1. The Spectacular by Fiona Davis, historical fiction, New York 1956
  2. The Red Hot Blues Chanteuse by Ana Brazil, historical fiction, San Francisco 1919
  3. Those People Behind Us by Mary Camarillo, contemporary fiction, California 2017
  4. The River Maiden by Meredith Stoddard, romantic fantasy, Scotland
  5. The Map Colorist by Rebecca D’Harlingue, historical fiction, Amsterdam 1660
  6. The Tiffany Girls by Shelley Noble, historical fiction, Manhattan 1899
  7. The Hobby Shop on Barnaby Street by Jillianne Hamilton, historical fiction, London 1940
  8. The Broken Sword by Jonathan Posner, historical fiction, Tudor England
  9. The View From Half Dome by Jill Caugherty, historical fiction, San Francisco/Yosemite 1934
  10. The Bookbinder by Pip Williams, historical fiction, Oxford 1914

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that most of these are historical fiction! I did read nonfiction this year, and other genres, but my favorites always gravitate toward historical fiction.
